Professional Experience

Mr. Shapiro has practiced law in Rochester for over 40 years, concentrating on civil litigation and appeals.  He has briefed and argued more than 100 appeals before the New York Court of Appeals, and the 3rd and 4th Department Appellate Divisions.

Mr. Shapiro is a member of the Monroe County, New York State, and American Bar Associations.  He is admitted to practice in the 4th Department (New York State); U.S. District Court (Western District of New York), U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Tax Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals (2nd Circuit).

Professional Honors and Achievements

During the course of his distinguished career, Mr. Shapiro has served on numerous bar association committees, and is a frequent lecturer on state and federal litigation practice.  He has also served as a faculty member at two National Institute of Trial Advocacy Programs, as well as trial practice seminars sponsored by the U.S. Federal District Court, Monroe County Supreme Court, the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, and by the Monroe County Bar Association.  Mr. Shapiro was a 1996 recipient of the prestigious Nathaniel Award, recognizing his commitment to justice in the Rochester community.  He is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocate’s Forum, which recognizes attorneys who have achieved trial verdicts in excess of a million dollars.  He has authored pleadings published as model forms in Bender’s CPLR Forms, Bender’s Forms of Discovery, Bender’s Deposition Strategy, Law and Forms, and in Bender’s Personal Injury Actions.  He holds the highest rating (AV) from Martindale-Hubbell.

Community Service

Mr. Shapiro has long been active in the Rochester Community.  He is a past Director of the Monroe County Legal Assistance Program, and past President of Project Unique, Inc.  He has served as President (1999-2002) and Director (1997-present) of the Friends of Rochester Public Library as well as Director (1998-present) of The Little Theatre Film Society, Inc.  He is also the former President of the Grove Place Association, which is composed of approximately 40 homeowners and 25 businesses in the East End Cultural District of Rochester.
